A woman died as a result of the injuries she received after a collision with another vehicle near downtown Las Vegas on Thursday.

According to local police, the woman was cruising west down East Gass Avenue in her Dodge Intrepid when she was violently introduced to a Ford Ecoline van at the intersection of South 4^th Street shortly after 12:00 p.m.

The 64-year-old woman and her 75-year-old passenger were transported to University Medical Center after the accident. The driver was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital; her passenger was treated for moderate injuries.

The 20-year-old driver of the Ford van remained on the scene to answer questions for police and received only minor injuries.

It is not known what lead to the accident, or who was at fault in the crash. Investigators are looking to the wreck in hopes of determining what factors were in play which lead to the fatal accident.
