A major accident involving three cars in North Las Vegas has left several recovering in nearby hospitals over the weekend.

According to an initial investigation, a truck failed to yield at a green light to make a left turn, smashing into an oncoming truck and an SUV at the intersection of Lake Mead and Simmons streets.

The wreckage was a mangled heap of metal, and firefighters were needed to cut one of the drivers out of their vehicle. In total, 8 people were involved in the accident, and all were taken to nearby hospitals.

Police are siting the heavy rains over the weekend as a cause, saying that the vehicles were traveling at unsafe speeds in the conditions they were in.

It has not yet been determined if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
