A young girl was hit by a bus while she was walking home on Friday afternoon.

According to police, the 11-year-old girl got off her bus and headed into a crosswalk to go home when the bus attempted to make a turn and struck her at the intersection of Fall Cliff Road and Pebble Rock Drive near the US 95.

The intersection was largely populated and there were a number of witnesses to the accident, including several children.

The bus had reported just dropped off a number of kids at a stop, where other young students and parents were gathered to take the kids home when the bus, still carrying students, attempted to make a loop in the residential neighborhood.

Members of the community are upset because they believe that the accident was a result of poor planning and a lack of focus in such a crowded area.

The district has released a statement offering apologies to the family of the young girl, and is promising a thorough investigation into the accident.

A memorial has been set up at the scene of the accident where friends and neighbors have left flowers, candles and photos of the girl.
