Las Vegas, NV (February 26, 2019) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal collision at a busy intersection Tuesday afternoon, February 26th. LVMPD officers were summoned to respond to a 2-vehicle collision that occurred sometime around 4:40 P.M. at the intersection of Flamingo Road and McLeod Drive. According to investigators, a Chrysler 200 was traveling westbound on Flamingo Road and attempted to negotiate a turn left into the southbound lanes of McLeod Drive. The Chrysler 200 crossed the path of a 2009 Ford Escape that was traveling eastbound on Flamingo Road causing the Ford to collide into the right passenger side of the Chrysler. First respondents arrived to find 2 occupants inside the Chrysler, the driver and a 72-year old woman who was identified as a Las Vegas resident. Both people were transported by ambulance to University Medical Center for injuries sustained during the collision. The 72-year old woman was pronounced dead a short time after arriving and the driver is expected to survive with minor to moderate injuries. Police say they do not believe alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the collision. Officials have stated that the driver showed no signs of impairment. This is the 16th traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction since the beginning of 2019.
