COVID 19 Updates

April 14, 2020 | Blog

On Easter Sunday the United States surpassed 550,000 cases of CODVID-19 or Coronavirus as millions of Christians were forced to celebrate the Easter holiday from the safety of their homes. Many Churches were able to honor social distancing effort by live-streaming their Easter services to their congregants, while other churches still gathered at houses of worship, putting the public and loves ones at a higher risk for contraction in those areas.

So far the Unites States has documented at least 22,073 deaths out of 556,044 cases as all 50 states are currently under a federal disaster declaration for the first time in the nation’s history. The Justice Department said they expect to take action against regulations on religious institutions as local governments try to minimize gatherings to reduce the spread of COVID-19. There are a number of civil lawsuits already in the court system and the department said they may decide to file alongside some of these churches.

Wyoming was the final state to declare a state of disaster making federal funds available to help supplement state and local efforts to curve the rise of the pandemic. Many state governments have implemented stay at home orders which allow citizens to travel for essential needs only such as work, groceries, or medical appointments. Schools in some states will not open until after summer break forcing parents to find adequate childcare. Healthcare workers are the most vulnerable, with a dwindling supply of medical masks and gowns many states are now competing with one another for the bids from the national stockpiles.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington projects that if the country keeps social distancing measures until the end of May, about 61,500 Americans will lose their lives to the virus by August. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, on Sunday conceded lives would have been saved had efforts to contain the virus been put in place earlier. “Obviously you could logically say that if you had a process that was ongoing and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives, I mean, obviously, if we had right from the very beginning shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different.”
