The incident occurred on S. Decatur Blvd., north of W. Pioneer Ave., at approximately 7:06 p.m., according to a media release by the LVMPD.

Based on evidence found at the scene and statements provided by witnesses, authorities determined that a 2012 Volkswagen, traveling north on Decatur Blvd., veered to the right while attempting a lane change, subsequently losing control. The vehicle departed from the roadway and continued its trajectory northward along the eastern sidewalk, colliding with several utility poles and ultimately striking a pedestrian.
After the collision, the Volkswagen came to rest back on the road. The impact of the crash resulted in debris that damaged seven unoccupied vehicles in a nearby car dealership parking lot. Tragically, emergency responders rushed the severely injured pedestrian, identified as a 55-year-old male, to UMC Trauma. Regrettably, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, they pronounced him dead.
Jovany Pouncil Suspected of DUI in Crash on Decatur Blvd.
They took both the driver, Jovany Pouncil, 27, and the passenger of the Volkswagen to UMC Trauma. Both received treatment of minor injuries they sustained in the crash. Authorities suspected Pouncil of being impaired at the time of the incident. Consequently, they booked him in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on charges related to driving under the influence (DUI). They have scheduled a court hearing for May 16 to address the matter.
This devastating collision marks the 47th traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for the year 2023.
