A 9-year-old boy is recovering in a Vegas hospital after being hit by a car on the west side of the Valley on Tuesday evening.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that the child was attempting to cross the Summerlin Parkway eastbound on-ramp from Buffalo around 5:20 p.m. when a Honda sedan crashed into him. He was not in a marked crosswalk and did not have any kind of right of way.

A school bus driver witnessed the accident and pulled over to the side of the road to call 911.

The young boy was taken quickly by ambulance to University Medical Center. The extent of his injuries is unknown, though he was conscious and speaking with paramedics while being transported.

The driver of the car that hit the child, a 24-year-old Vegas woman, remained on the scene to answer questions for investigators.

Officers have determined that the woman will not face any charges because the boy was crossing the street in an unmarked area.
