Two Alabama Residents Killed Crossing Street

May 29, 2012 | Car Accident

Two Alabama tourists were killed after being struck by a passing car attempting to cross the street over the weekend in Las Vegas.

According to the Clark County coroner’s office and the Nevada Highway Patrol, 51 year old Dana Lynn Goudie and 52 year old Scott Theodore Bouchard of Mobile, Alabama were killed attempting to cross Las Vegas Boulevard at 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

The two were making their way across the road just north of East Robindale Road, outside of a marked crosswalk, when a 2008 Honda Accord, driven by 23 year old William Parker, traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard crashed into both of them.

Both were taken to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center but were pronounced dead upon their arrival at the facility.

Parker remained on the scene to speak with officers about the crash. It is still not known if he faces any sort of criminal charges, or if there was anything else in play in the accident beyond the Alabama visitors crossing in a non-sanctioned location.

The incident marks the 55th and 56th traffic related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area in 2012 alone. Considering the heavy flow of tourists making their way through the streets of Las Vegas, lack of clarity and understanding of Nevada’s roadways is a strong influence on the number of accidents in the area.

Also in play is the nature of behaviors tourists in the area are engaging in, but the amount of foot traffic coming in from out of state makes better education and awareness difficult for the beleaguered Las Vegas police.

Nevada law enforcement agencies have been hard at work all year in raising awareness in pedestrians and drivers throughout the state, though incidents like this are difficult to prevent. Being from out of state, tourists from out of state are blissfully unaware of the dangers that await them.
