Traffic Stop Ends in Smashed Home

May 24, 2012 | Car Accident

A driver smashed his car into a home and attempted to run from the scene on foot after a simple traffic stop Thursday morning in Las Vegas.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, an officer in the field attempted to make a routine traffic stop on East Harmon Avenue near Sandhill Drive at around 6:55 a.m.

Upon running the driver’s name and information into the police’s records, an outstanding warrant was discovered. When the officer asked the driver to step out of his vehicle, he instead stomped on the gas and sped off.

A short pursuit ended a few blocks from the initial stop when the suspect attempted to make a sharp turn and instead drove over a curb, into a stop sign, and the corner of a home in the 4400 block of East Harmon.

After coming to rest partially inside someone’s home, the driver attempted to flee the scene, but was caught and arrested by police just a block away.

There were two other occupants inside the vehicle at the time of the accident, and both were taken to a nearby hospital. One was being treated for serious though non-life threatening injuries.

There is no word on whether or not anyone was in the home that was hit, though no injuries have been reported. The car struck a corner of the home, inflicting a substantial and car sized hole.

As a result of the commotion, the driver ended up doing nothing more than adding to his rap sheet and punishment. Running from the police is never a smart idea. Now, not only does this man have to deal with the charges incurred in the original warrant, but also the damages caused in the accident, and the penalties of fleeing from a police stop.
